Mistake #1 : Not Writing How the Audience Speaks.


Mistake #2 : Not Leading with the Most Interesting Part


 

Great copy reads like a slippery slide. You glide from one word to the next without realizing it… the next thing you know, you’re reading the last line.

 

The problem with beginners and inexperienced copywriters is they start with the most boring facts. 

 

They don’t start their ads with a *BANG.*

 

The ad’s most interesting story, unique mechanism, or big promise is always in the middle. Never at the start. 

 

An advertisement’s first few sentences (also known as the “lead”) is the emotional core of the ad. It must grab attention, trigger curiosity, and make the audience intrigued. 

 

If it doesn’t do that, the ad has ultimately failed…

 

...because if the audience doesn’t read the “lead,” there’s a low chance they read the other parts of the ad.

 

If a sales letter, email, social media post, or any type of ad isn’t converting well, try fixing the lead. 

 

Who knows? It might bring surprising results. 

 

Mistake #3 : Not Editing Using C.U.B.A


 

C.U.B.A. stands for “confusing, unbelievable, boring, awkward.”

 

An ad will never work if it’s C.U.B.A.

 

That’s why ruthless editing is needed. 

 

The sales copy must speak to the audience’s awareness and sophistication level. If it’s too smart, the audience might see it as confusing. If it’s too simple, it might be too boring. 

 

The ad needs to have realistic promises and claims as well. If it’s unbelievable, skepticism will arise...and so will buying resistance.

 

Lastly, the ad must sound like a person speaking. There must be no “logic jumps” — where a person rapidly changes topics mid sentence — to avoid awkwardness and confusion.

 

It must have the right amount of everything. You can achieve this by doing proper research or creating a well thought-out marketing brief.
